The content of free oxygen in the steel after RH plus aluminum deoxidization is very low, and the refining slag with high alkalinity and high reducibility is covered above the molten steel, which provides favorable thermodynamic conditions for the desulfurization of molten steel.

The optical basicity of slag indicates the ability of CaO in slag to provide oxygen ions (O2-), and represents the degree of its desulfurization ability.

The results show that the slag has the strongest desulfurization ability when the optical basicity is 0.78 ~ 0.82. The optical basicity of the refined slag is 0.74 ~ 0.76, which indicates that the refined slag has a strong desulfurization ability.

For the CaO-MgO-Al203-SiO2 slag system, the calculation results show that the high sulfur capacity of the refined slag can be controlled in the range of 0.020 ~ 0.030 during the RH treatment
