With the development of social economy and the progress of technology, people's awareness of environmental protection and energy saving is constantly improving. The domestic and foreign researchers began to consider every component in the refining slag refining process, their research is not only the premelting slag refining desulphurization and dephosphorization, degassing, go with the traditional process, and pay attention to the research of smelting, many aspects, such as the effect of energy saving, environmental protection effect of the premelting type refining slag in future possible direction of research and development are as follows:

1. On the premise of obtaining the deep desulfurization effect, the influence of pre-melting refining slag on the corrosion of metallurgical refractory materials is studied to reduce the corrosion of metallurgical refractory materials by refining slag, thus saving the production cost of metallurgical refractory materials.

2. Study other slag systems other than CaO-Al2O3 base and CaO-CaF2 base slag system, carry out comprehensive analogy analysis, and develop more energy saving and environmental protection refining slag.

At present, eAF and bOF steelmaking generally adopt the off-furnace refining technology, which transfers all or part of deoxidation, desulfurization, gas reduction, inclusions reduction, steel composition and temperature adjustment in the steelmaking process to ladle furnace, so as to obtain clean steel and achieve good results with high yield and low cost. In the process of refining outside the furnace, the choice of refining slag is very important. The pre-melting refining slag has the characteristics of uniform composition, stable performance, non-water absorption in storage, uniform composition and high speed in use, less dust, and less environmental pollution, etc. It has a strong ability to absorb non-metallic inclusion in steel, high comprehensive desulfurization rate, and has a significant effect on the purification of liquid steel.
