Due to the limitation of raw materials and production process, the content of SiO2 in the original pre-melted calcium aluminate refining slag is difficult to be less than 3%. In the smelting of low oxygen steel, SiO2 in the slag not only reduces the basicity of the refining slag, but also increases the oxygen content of molten steel by the metal aluminum in the oxidized steel, and the reduced Si enters the steel and affects the composition of molten steel.

Because there is no gas in the original pre-melted calcium aluminate refining slag, although the melting rate is fast in the initial refining stage of LF furnace, the foaming slag cannot be formed in time to ensure the submerged arc operation without the presence of foaming agent.
